Description
This course covers the New York State Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services curriculum for preparation as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). It reviews material including but not limited to: overview of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), EMS systems, roles of EMTs and Paramedics, basic Anatomy and Physiology, Preparatory and basic airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), patient assessment, medical/ behavioral/ obstetrical/ gynecological, traumatic, medical emergencies for neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. Lab work includes bleeding control, CPR, patient assessment and management, splinting, patient immobilization, moving techniques, and ambulance operations. Skills are subsequently demonstrated and evaluated in the laboratory, hospital and/or field setting. Students must satisfactorily perform all practical skills in order to successfully complete the course.
